Transfer Success Programs
The Transfer Success Program (TSP) is a workshop designed especially for first year transfer students on academic probation for the first time. In addition to providing information on campus resources, TSP gives participants the opportunity to meet other transfer students in a cohesive environment. During TSP, students will learn University policies regarding academic probation and disqualification. In small groups, students will get the chance to meet with an academic advisor from within their college to ask specific questions. In addition, students will have the opportunity to discuss challenges, success strategies, and identify key individuals and resources that can provide support. By the end of the workshop students will have identified specific goals, strengths, and a support team!
“Reach out to the people that you meet there [Transfer Success Program]. I found out that there were quite a few people in my break out group who actually lived in my development that I lived in and you’re going through the same things as these people, even if they’re not in the same major.”
What students like most about the Advisors
“The encouragement from advisors”
“How excited the advisors are to help”

How the Transfer Success Program works:
Students who are on Academic Probation for the first time after Winter Quarter or Spring Quarter will be contacted by the Mustang Success Center to attend a workshop during week 1 or 2 of the quarter.
- An email will be sent to your Cal Poly email address with further directions
Sign up for the TSP workshop by completing the survey that was sent to your Cal Poly email address. Students will receive confirmation/reminder by the first day of the quarter.
During the first week of classes, students will attend a 1.5/2 hour TSP workshop. This will consist of two main parts.
- The large session where we will talk about student success strategies of previous transfer students as well as explore some of the resources that are available to Cal Poly transfer students.
- The small groups where students will be placed in groups and be assigned by academic college. Coaches will lead goal-setting exercises and group discussions. After the TSP workshop, students will have more self-awareness, campus knowledge, meet individuals from their college, and tangible tools to apply towards their Cal Poly career.
Coaches send their students a follow-up email and survey during the fifth week of classes. Once students complete this survey, they will have completed the Transfer Success Program!
